TPLD is Changing, Y’all

Serving as a mentor for Teaching: A Path to Learning & Development these last 8 months has been an honor, and we aren’t going anywhere! But we are evolving.

In a nutshell, we are a group of former educators who help current educators with their job transition to the corporate world of L&D, for free. When I started, we were at around 3,000 members, but now we are about to break 9,000. One on one mentoring is no longer sustainable.

We have a few scheduled mentor chats left on our calendars, but once those are done, we are transitioning to group mentoring. Our outreach will be more impactful if we can host larger sessions, webinars, and challenges for the community. My first group session will be April 27, 2022 on the theme of how to stand out as a candidate. We will meet at 730 PM EDT in Devlin Peck’s community website.

Having spoken to dozens of teachers who are trying to leave the classroom, I’ve noticed I repeatedly get asked the same questions. In the coming weeks I’d like to address these directly.

These questions include:

  • How did you learn the technology?

  • How do I stand out in a sea of applications?

  • How long did it take you to transition to a new field?

  • Do I need to know all the content in my new industry?

Instead of answering these questions over and over again for individuals, it makes sense to host group sessions for wider reach. If you read these questions and they resonate, join our LinkedIn group for updates and announcements about our upcoming events.

I’ve developed lasting relationships through TPLD and I’m so proud to be a member. Every time I hear about one of my mentees landing their dream job it makes my day. I can’t wait to keep serving as we grow together!
