Professional Development Options

Stagnancy is not an option for a Hermione Granger such as myself.

Having completed the 5 week long NovoEd Learning Experience Design course earlier this year, I’m looking ahead at other professional development opportunities for 2022.

I want to be regularly upskilling not just for my own sake, but also keeping in mind how I can develop professionally in order to uplift those around me. In other words, how can I improve my instructional design craft to benefit my community?

Whilst I have a reputation for being a frugal budgeter who knows how to take advantage of free resources, sometimes it’s worth it to pay for an accredited experience. Here are some paid programs I am considering for later in the year.

  1. Kirkpatrick Partners- Bronze Level Certification

We’ve all heard of Kirkpatrick’s 4 Levels of Evaluation- why not learn from the source? This program takes you through the four levels of evaluation to ensure your learning solutions are as high-impact as possible. Participants will learn to measure outcomes that go beyond a user-satisfaction survey to reach deeper levels of analysis of business performance.

  2. IAAP- Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies

This credential is the foundational course from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals. It informs learners how to design for disability access across different industries. It touches on some technical upskilling as well as broader standards and laws to be aware of. For any learning professional who values inclusivity, this program would be a great match.

  3. ATD- Associate Professional in Talent Development

This certification covers the basics of talent development for professionals of any level within an organization. This is more of a broad knowledge based exam, but Association for Talent Development offers many other skills-based certificates as well. This is THE professional membership organization for talent development workers in the corporate world, so you are guaranteed a certain standard when engaging with ATD.

These paid programs are all great options for elevating my ID practice. Can you think of any other similar PD opportunities in our field?!
