A Game-Inspired eLearning Workshop With Emily Chorley

Yesterday I attended Emily Chorley’s Game-Inspired eLearning Design workshop and Y’ALL. She is an Articulate rockstar!

Emily was clear to point out that she is self-taught, and while the caveat might have been unnecessary because her creations are impeccable, it was really encouraging. How affirming to think that by continually honing our craft, we can get to that level of expertise.

Some of her technical tricks I noted:

  • Adding sound effects to hover states

  • Adding a transparent solid fill to shapes to move them around easily

  • Leaving equal space around text

  • Placing reference material just outside of the slides

  • Highlighting and previewing selected slides, not a whole scene

The biggest takeaway was to build eLearning that is fun and creative and connected to our personal interests. That being said, I am a HUGE fantasy fiction nerd, and with Emily’s gaming workshop fresh on my mind, I dove into the eLearning Heroes Challenge #363.

Check out my creation here.
