The Move from Mac to PC

After being a 15+ year Mac user, I made the switch to a PC in the summer of 2021. Don’t get me wrong, I still have my MacBook for personal use (I am typing this on Apple Notes). But for Articulate Storyline, I decided it would be easier to bite the bullet and learn how to use a PC.

My last two employers have provided a Lenovo ThinkPad, and that’s become my computer of choice for the work day.

Some of the biggest adjustments from Mac to PC included:

  • Learning new keyboard shortcuts. Things like copy+paste took me awhile to get used to. I still confuse the combos for screenshots.

  • Navigating the systems in Finder vs. File Explorer. Working with files had some growing pains, because even unzipping compressed folders is done differently.

  • Remembering I have a touchscreen. I often forget I have this feature on the PC because Macs aren’t there yet.

  • Customizing the desktop and system settings. This is easier and nicer on a Mac. Programs look more modern and the functionality is more intuitive overall, in my opinion.

  • Using word processing suites. It comes down to Pages/Keynote vs. Word/PowerPoint. I’ll use Microsoft Office because I have to, but I still prefer Pages and Keynote because of their ease-of-use to make beautiful designs and documents.

Ultimately, I can now go back and forth between both operating systems, Windows and Mac. If I had to choose one, though, it would have to be…

Mac! I’m an Apple gal all the way. Literally the ONLY reason I use a PC is Articulate Storyline. If they had a Mac version, or browser-based application (Storyline, not Rise), I could ditch Windows forever, but alas.
