The Benefits of Blogging

I have maintained an instructional design blog since I made the transition in 2021. It helps me be more purposeful with my career, as it makes me articulate my professional intentions.

My blog is a place to:

Document my growth - When I look back a year ago and see how I was struggling with Adobe Illustrator, it brings me a sense of pride that I now use it fluently as part of my daily workflow. There are posts about different webinars I’ve attended so I can see what I’ve learned.

Reflect on goals - Some of my goals for this year included developing a mentoring initiative at my organization, and upskilling in key learning technologies. My blog is where I can record write-ups of my progress. It serves as evidence when I have to submit mid-year and end-of-year reviews of my own performance.

Share what I have learned - Groups like TPLD were instrumental in supporting my transition to instructional design, and I want to pay it forward. Hopefully the blog helps teachers see if this type of corporate ID work interests them, and how to make that leap.

I’m a pretty disciplined person, so I’ll keep this blog going for the foreseeable future. If my posts resonate with other instructional designers, that’s a nice bonus.
