Digital Portfolio Content

There are four types of content I develop as an instructional designer. When building your digital portfolio, I would recommend including a variety of these work samples:

1. vILT/ILT

Workshop materials should include a slide deck, facilitator guide, and participant guide. You can use PowerPoint, Word, Google Slides, etc.

2. Video tutorials

This can be a screencast with a voiceover, a talking head video, or animation. Tools would include Camtasia, iMovie, Vyond, etc.

3. eLearning

Definitely include some sort of asynchronous digital learning experience. Articulate Storyline/Rise are my go-to here, but Adobe Captivate also works.

4. Job aids/Infographics

Designing a clear visual can be good for quick one pagers, documenting processes, presenting results of a campaign, etc. For this you can use Adobe Illustrator, Canva, PowerPoint, etc.

For transitioning teachers, I always recommend you create new work samples for your corporate ID portfolio. These should have an adult audience, and for the most part relate to non K-12 topics. That will make it easier for hiring managers to imagine you creating deliverables for them.

Creating and maintaining my digital portfolio has been a real point of pride for me. I’m always glad to drop some free feedback if you’d like a second pair of eyes on yours!
