Remote Work and Women

This is a follow-up post in my series about remote work. Let’s get real and talk about why remote work is better for people who menstruate!

🩸 All the materials you need are at your house. You don’t have to pack things like a change of clothes or extra sanitary napkins if you are working from home.

🩸 Remote work saves people with periods the dance of trying to sneak sanitary products into the bathroom. Raise your hand if you’ve ever hid a tampon up your sleeve or carried an entire briefcase into a bathroom stall to avoid showcasing the goods!

🩸 A home environment is just more comfortable. Some people like to use medicine like Motrin for pain relief, or possibly crank on a heating pad. I know folks who have installed a bidet on their toilet just for that time of the month.

🩸 Public bathrooms can also get unsanitary, especially if you choose reusable cloth menstrual pads or cups. You don’t want to rinse those out in a public sink where your colleagues can walk in.

🩸 Lastly, employees are less likely to call out of work for that time of the month if they work remotely. Working with cramps isn’t so bad in the comforts of your home, but the idea of limping into an office building when you are in pain means some people call in sick to avoid having to perform like everything is normal.

Ultimately, remote work = menstrual justice.
