An Example of Blended Learning

Tomorrow I will be observing the pilot of a blended learning program that I created as part of a team. It’s a great example of a hybrid learning experience, so I wanted to share what that looks like in the corporate setting.

My instructional design department develops employees, so we are an internally facing team. If employees want to ‘level-up’ and process more complex client cases, they go through our curriculum.

This particular class is technical training for new associates, so we needed to create both foundational concept-based lessons as well as task-based opportunities for practice.

I’m sharing this here because of how far we’ve come. Originally, this training was over 20 hours of instructor-led training completed in a classroom. The facilitator guide alone was over 170 pages!

Our final curriculum design includes:

  • eLearning lessons created on Articulate Rise

  • Formative knowledge checks

  • Video demos

  • Virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT) - practices

  • Reinforcement Kahoots

  • vILT debriefs

Throughout the learning experience, some of this is completed synchronously and some asynchronously. The training itself will be entirely remote.

We streamlined the program, saved the business time, and created transferable micro-learning opportunities. This new course is going to be so much more engaging for facilitators and learners.

Corporate training doesn’t have to be stuffy or tedious. When designing learning experiences, your imagination is truly the limit of what you can create.
