One niche in L&D program management is mentoring. Many companies have mentoring programs and someone has to lead those initiatives.
Mentoring programs can take many shapes. Here are a few ideas for mentoring programs that might serve your organization:
- Traditional 1:1 – A more global mentoring program has more experienced employees mentoring folks looking to develop their careers.
- Early career / Emerging talent- These mentoring programs target employees just starting in the industry or growing in their field.
- Critical role – Some mentoring programs target specific roles that are areas of need in an organization
- Executive – This is an approach that targets new executives in which more experienced leaders help them accelerate their growth.
- Reverse mentoring – A unique mentoring program can empower interns or early career employees to mentor legacy employees.
- Mentoring pods – If you have a surplus of mentees, it might help to form pods where one mentor meets with a small group to focus on specific topics.
Before launching a mentoring program, investigate which model would be the best fit for your organization. This should happen in the planning stage. You might need more than one of these categories!
