Moving Cross Country as a Remote Worker

Congrats to me, I moved back to Atlanta! After two years in Indianapolis for my partner’s contract teaching history at Butler University, we had the freedom to choose what was next because I am a remote worker.

My employer made the transition from Indiana to Georgia super easy; it was literally just a single form in Workday and *voila*!

If I had kept my hybrid job in Indianapolis, I would have been unemployed when we made the move. I would have lost health insurance, and I wouldn’t have met the income requirements for a rental house. Instead I get to move closer to family and friends while retaining my salary.

CSG has fully embraced their dispersed global workforce, and all of their employees are better for it. Without impacting my on-the-job productivity, my work-life balance has never been better.

My mom lives in Málaga, Spain for half the year and back in March I hopped on a plane and worked from her flat for a week. It was incredible. I could spend my lunch hour wandering the cobblestone streets of the historic district, return to her place for a few more hours of work while nibbling fresh olives on the balcony. And CSG didn’t hold it against me, in fact, my manager supported and encouraged me.

If you have suspicions that remote work might be for you, you are probably right.
