Maintain an ID Portfolio

Your portfolio is never done. You may go live and post it on LinkedIn but don’t get too comfortable.

Each year you will grow and gain new skills and your portfolio should reflect that. When I got good at HTML/CSS programming, I made sure to add an asset that highlights those new skills.

Also, as I complete projects in my day job that I am proud of, I think of how to represent those in my portfolio (without giving away proprietary information).

As my role has shifted from eLearning development to more consultative instructional design, to leading and managing projects and programs today, I want my portfolio to reflect that evolution.

Why is this so important? You never know what opportunities will present themselves. You might not even be looking but job security is never a given in the corporate world and you always want to be ready, just in case.

ID portfolios should be a constant work in progress. Mine has evolved over the years and is still changing.
