A Tough Job Market for Transitioning Teachers

I know quite a few people in real life who returned to the classroom after a stint in the corporate world. They’ve all landed in a much better position and with a renewed energy for teaching.

This job market is horrible for employees and career pivoters. In a time of layoffs and hiring freezes, sometimes the safest choice is to take a familiar and stable position.

I think choosing the best option to provide for your family is a success story. Jobs don’t have to be permanent, so you can always try again in a year or two or when the market recovers.

Some workplaces are less toxic than others, so you might land in a school with a supportive administration and engaged students and find this is what you were missing all along!

With this economy, it really isn’t your fault if you can’t find a corporate job. Experienced instructional designers with Fortune 500 tenure can’t find jobs right now.

There is nothing shameful about staying in the classroom longer than you anticipated. In many situations, it is the best choice.
