Want to make your life easier AND impress your manager? Summarize your progress for the week each Friday before you leave for the weekend.
I update a brief report in OneNote that is very low maintenance. Not only does it let my boss know where I am at, but it also helps during performance reviews.
Some of the things I include in my report:
- Credential analytics – This is the major program I manage so weekly I download the stats related to credentials issued, viewed, and shared.
- Project status updates – Bullet point list of how the project is going, as well as any blockers, risks, or other important information goes here.
- Major accomplishments – If I completing a certification, established a positive relationship with a new business partner, launched a new initiative, etc. I want to highlight that.
Some tips for making this work: on Fridays check your KanBan boards for a reminder of the cards you closed, bold or highlight the most significant wins, and update the report throughout the week rather than once at the end. These steps help me keep everything running smoothly.
Sharing a Friday report with your manager is one of those small things that can level up your career in a big way.
