Transitioning Teachers Checklist

Heya transitioning teachers! As summer rolls around, you may have the time and energy to deep dive into your career transition. I’m four years out of the classroom and never once regretted the change.

I personally didn’t have the resources to pay for a career coach and approached this the scrappy way by upskilling and doing my own research. It’s very possible to make the change to instructional design on a budget.

If you aren’t sure where to start, make yourself a plan that covers these important steps:

Steps to Transition Careers

  1. Research
    1. Choose your role
    2. Choose the type of workplace you want
    3. Learn theory/terminology
    4. Learn tech/platforms/tools
  2. Tailor application materials
    1. Profile – summary
    2. Resume
    3. Cover Letter
    4. Portfolio
    5. LinkedIn
  3. Interview prep
    1. Prepare anecdotes
    2. Practice common questions
    3. Network

If you are interested in how to do each of these steps, I have a checklist in my Gumroad shop that breaks down this plan with detailed guidance. It links out to free resources and gives structure to your job search!

Check it out here at my Gumroad shop.
