In the corporate world, it’s often Business as Usual (BAU) during stressful or chaotic times. This can only be achieved successfully with flexibility and trust at work.
In the last year, I got married, bought a house and moved, and then Hurricane Helene destroyed our roof. The aftermath of the storm and power outages meant a lot of time spent dealing with spotty wifi, insurance claims, and roofing companies.
CSG’s flexible work policy and unlimited PTO was incredible as I worked around these major life events.
As a good planner and PMP, I mapped out my major deadlines and made sure I could still work my 40 hours a week and meet performance expectations.
Sometimes I had to work from a friend’s dining room as my house was being worked on. Sometimes I worked from my in-laws guest room in Vermont. Sometimes I worked evenings to align with Australian and Saudi Arabian colleagues.
Throughout all of these tumultuous periods, work was accommodating and understanding. That’s probably a rarity in the corporate world, although it shouldn’t be.
And for my honeymoon to New Zealand in 2025? Well, I’ll work around that as well.
